The Learning by Brightness methodology
The educational process that Brightness develops in its events is broken down into 8 successive and distinct steps.
Our methodology for organising an inspiring event
Stage 1
CREATE CURIOSITY AND GENERATE ATTENTION
Talks are "cognitive hooks " that create surprise and arouse the curiosity of an audience on a theme thanks to the novelty and originality of the topics presented.
Step 2
IDENTIFY THE BENEFITS
It is the value of knowledge that creates the motivation to engage in the learning process. It is therefore essential to convince the audience that a knowledge or skill is key!
Step 3
DEFINE LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Without a clear learning goal and purpose, motivation is stretched too thin. It is necessary to have a plan for learning something, with clear objectives to be achieved and measured.
Step 4
SOCIALISING AND BEING ACTIVE
The sense of belonging to a learning group, the ability to get support from members and even the group dynamics are key in the learning process.
Step 5
APPLY KNOWLEDGE
Coming intocontact with an idea, concept or exerciseat least three times is a minimum for memorising it. This creates deep links between new skills and those already acquired.
Step 6
RE-CONNECTING THE DOTS
Identifying the causes, consequences, similarities and differences of a body of knowledge is the core of sustainable learning.
Step 7
REVIEW
What is easily acquired is easily lost. Being too sure of one's skills and knowledge is the enemy of the learner. In addition to understanding, one must retain what one has learned.
Step 8
RECOMMEND
The learning process is not linear. It is circular. Reviewing opens up new areas of investigation and provokes curiosity about new ideas and knowledge.
BRIGHTNESS FORMATS
01 - The Talk
This is a short public speaking format. The speaker is usually alone on stage and presents an idea. The Talk creates curiosity and generates the audience's attention on a subject, an idea, a concept, a skill. It also systematically exposes a benefit for those who take the time to develop their knowledge on the subject. It underlines the complexity, does not simplify it, but popularises the subject so that it is accessible to as many people as possible.
BRIGHTNESS FORMATS
02 - The Pitch
The Pitch is a short speaking format comparable to the Talk in its intention. It should arouse interest and surprise. However, the Pitch is shorter than the Talk. It lasts a maximum of 5 minutes and is devoted to the presentation of a project, an initiative, a product or a service. The Pitch is therefore a project-oriented talk.
BRIGHTNESS FORMATS
03 - The Controversy
The Controversy is a speaking format of less than 20 minutes involving two speakers. The two speakers speak on the same issue but have a different opinion on the subject. They give a two-voice talk, constructed to follow a preconceived course. Controversy, unlike debate, leaves no room for improvisation. There is no moderator involved in the controversy. The aim of this format is to get two different, even opposing, views on a given topic.
BRIGHTNESS FORMATS
04 - The Debate
The Debate is a format for exchange and argument, which allows you to better defend your ideas and refute those of others. The Debate features between four and eight speakers who speak in a structured way on the same subject and in a playful way.
BRIGHTNESS FORMATS
05 - The Q&A session
The Q&A session is a format that systematically follows a Talk, Pitch or Controversy. It allows the audience to be active, to apply their knowledge and to reconnect the dots. The session lasts 5 to 10 minutes of questions and answers between the expert(s).
BRIGHTNESS FORMATS
06 - The Agora
The agora is a speaking format that lasts less than 20 minutes, with speakers taking turns on stage from the room. Each speaker has a maximum of 2 minutes to present a point of view, an idea, a remark, a criticism or a suggestion on the previous activities in which he or she participated. The speakers are chosen beforehand by means of an online solution on which they specify the content of their speech. They receive express preparation by the moderator before going on stage.
BRIGHTNESS FORMATS
07 - The Firechat
Firechat is an informal debate format, where the audience gathers around a circle with the expert(s) on a topic to exchange, debate, and extend their knowledge. Firechat lasts less than 90 minutes. It may or may not be moderated depending on the needs of the experts and the size of the audience.
BRIGHTNESS FORMATS
08 - The Masterclass
The Masterclass is a long format consisting of a 20 minute talk by an expert followed by a 20 minute Q&A session. The expert can present an idea or concept and invite the audience to react to develop their knowledge.
BRIGHTNESS FORMATS
09 - The Recap
The Recap is an exercise to be carried out by the audience over time. It consists of the audience writing an account of the notions and ideas acquired. This exercise is key to revising the notions acquired and to making them their own in their own words by linking them to their own interests.
BRIGHTNESS FORMATS
10 - The Workshop
The workshop allows the audience to experiment and make connections. It is an excellent way to learn by doing and to experiment, to make mistakes, and thus to evaluate one's level of knowledge. It is facilitated by one or more experts, around concrete, assessable activities. It lasts less than 60 minutes.
BRIGHTNESS FORMATS
11 - Flashcards
Flashcards are a very effective learning tool to help the audience define their objectives and review what they have learned. They are in the form of cards with a question on one side and the answer on the other. They are distributed by Brightness at the end of events to allow the audience to review the concepts and knowledge they have acquired.
BRIGHTNESS FORMATS
12 - The Breaks
Breaks are absolutely key moments in the programming of Brightness events. They are an opportunity for the audience to take a breath, to talk, to wander or to explore. Brightness recommends breaks of at least 20 minutes between each activity lasting up to 90 minutes. After 120 minutes of activity without a break of more than 20 minutes, a break of at least 45 minutes is required.
BRIGHTNESS FORMATS
13 - The LAB
The LAB is a discovery device proposed by Brightness which consists of offering the audience spaces for presentation and experimentation. The audience is invited to wander through these spaces and explore the activities that interest them as they wish. Each space consists of at least one presentation area where an expert is present and an experimentation area where the audience can touch, handle and try out.
BRIGHTNESS FORMATS
14 - Surprising experiences
Surprising experiences are times dedicated to surprise and emotion. They allow the audience to disconnect from their previous activity.
